Opportunity #1: Stars
Time is of the essence on this one! I just learned that the White House is hosting an Astronomy Night tomorrow. You’ll need to register quickly if you’d like to watch the live event — it takes place tomorrow! The White House Astronomy Night promises to be an exciting evening celebrating science, technology, and space!
Opportunity #2: Saturdays
The University of Virginia, in coordination with the Curry School of Education Gifted Department, is offering Saturday enrichment courses for gifted students in kindergarten through grade five. Applications are now online at http://curry.virginia.edu/sep and are due by December 1, 2015.
The classes are held on five Saturdays in late January/early February on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. Class topics this year include molecular biology, theater, architecture, storytelling, blogging, space exploration, neuroscience, technology as it emerged in the Civil War, and much, much more.
Opportunity #3: Something Else
This one is more of a heads up about something new on the horizon… The Math Kangaroo program is coming to TJ! Math Kangaroo is an international math competition. Kids register, pay a fee, and then show up on the competition date to take a math test. I’ll send home more detailed information soon, but if this sounds like something in which your child would be interested, mark your calendar now for the evening of March 17th!
